On the Island

A handful of small hotels operate inside the walls along the Grande Rue, among them the Auberge Saint-Pierre, La Mère Poulard, and Les Terrasses Poulard. The rooms are small, the stairs are many, and you carry your own bags up from the gate; in exchange you get the ramparts at dawn and the lit village at night with almost no one else in it. Book months ahead for summer, and pack light.

At the Dam

The hotel cluster at La Caserne, by the dam 2.5 kilometers from the island, includes the Relais Saint-Michel and several mid-range chains. Rooms are modern and full-sized, parking is at the door, and the free shuttle to the island runs from early morning until late evening; some rooms at the Relais face the Mont directly. This is the practical choice for families and drivers.

In the Towns Nearby

Beauvoir and Pontorson, 4 and 9 kilometers away, hold guesthouses and small hotels at lower prices, and Pontorson has the rail connection. Timing the night

The island empties between 6 and 7 p.m., when the last day visitors walk back to the shuttle, and stays quiet until the coaches arrive mid-morning. Those are the hours an island or dam hotel buys. The free shuttle runs until 23:00 most of the year and until 1:00 in July and August, so a room at La Caserne still gives you the lit Mont after dinner, with a 12-minute ride back.

From July 3 to August 31 in 2026 the abbey opened after dark every night on a separate ticket, with last entry around 11 p.m.; outside those dates the village and ramparts are the evening, and they are free.

Pontorson, 9 km away, is the rail stop for the Mont, with a bus to the dam; for drivers, every hotel at La Caserne has parking at the door, and the island hotels have none.
